Living In Cyprus
While Cyprus hasn't always been a popular tourist and expat destination, political, infrastructural and economic changes in the last decades have transformed Cyprus into a tourist hotspot. The country has a rich culture with Greek, Turkish and Arab influences, and a history going back thousands of years. Those travelling to Cyprus will enjoy a hot climate, stunning architecture, exciting trips inside the country and will get used to a slightly different, more relaxed pace of life.
Cyprus is situated in the Mediterranean Sea, east of Turkey, and west of Syria and Lebanon. The country gained independence from the United Kingdom in the 1960s, and has a mixed population of 77% Greek Cypriots, 18 % Turkish Cypriots and some other ethnic groups. It is separated into two parts, the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish-controlled area in the north, this latter only recognized officially by Turkey.
